She knows me, well,  very well!
She follows me, I need not tell.
Initially I was scared,
Then her I embraced.

Over time grew a bond nobody could break,
A joy to see her daily as soon as I wake!
I loved her dearly, it was me,
And we were we.

Slowly we fell apart,
She was still me, she knew it from the start.
The penumbra of others engulfed mine,
I felt better, I could shine.
But it wasn’t me.
That she could see.

I realized I was my only companion,
I felt, her I had abandoned.
It was late, but I found my friend,
My shadow,  she was and is there for me to defend.
